Subject Matter and Length

Articles can vary in length from one paragraph to one or two finished MEDIUM pages, (approximately 800 to 1,800 words) depending on pictures and graphics. While theme articles have priority, articles outside the theme are welcome. Articles are edited for clarity, style, format, and to meet space requirements.

Format

Use a word processing format and include a title for the article at the top. Use single spaces between sentences and full words rather than contractions. For acronyms, spell out the words first followed by the acronym in parentheses, and then use the acronym for later references in the article. Write in the first person if you are personally involved in your subject or in the second person if you are explaining how to do something. Use an active voice rather than a passive voice in the article. Please follow the Chicago Manual of Style when citing sources: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools.html and http://www.lib.washington.edu/help/guides/45chicago.pdf

About the Author

At the bottom of the document include your name, position, school name, school district, city, e-mails, and any roles in WLMA. Please include a photo of yourself for the top of the article page.

Copyrighted Articles

If you copyright your article, send the MEDIUM a letter giving WLMA permission to use the article for a specific issue.

Photographs and Graphics

Photographs and graphics add interest to the article. Photos can be prints or digital images. Prints will be scanned by the Editor and returned after publication. Digital images must be 270 dpi (pixels) or greater and saved in tiff format. Please include a caption identifying the people or activity.

Submitting Manuscripts

Submit all items as e-mail attachments or on a compact disc. Please also mail a printed copy of the manuscript for formatting reference. Send items to: Alice McNeer, MEDIUM Editor, 1114 East Filbert Street, Kent, WA, 98030. E-mail: mediumeditor@earthlink.net.
