Primary sources are artifacts, original or facsimiles of documents, maps, diaries and items from a historical time period. They are important to the Social Studies CBAs and EALRs.

Web sites that show the power of using primary resources include:

  • Martha Ballard Diary - includes teaching tools such as the magnifier/translator that shows the original diary and changes it into an easy-to-read font.  Students can even try their own interpretation of the original script.

  • Diary of Opal Whiteley - the diary of a young girl in Oregon at the end of the 19th century, including teacher's guides, a timeline and more
