Today's information explosion challenges all library media specialists to provide more leadership in our schools than ever before. In an effort to meet that challenge, WLMA will annually provide practitioners grant funds to attend any professional library/media-oriented workshop or conference, other than the annual WLMA State Conference.
Professional growth and leadership were key factors in Sharon Bates' successful 17-year career in education. She was a knowledgeable library science instructor at Eastern Washington University, an active exuberant library media specialist at Medical Lake Middle School and a strong insightful leader both in region 7 and on the state level of the Washington Library Media Association. Sharon epitomized the intent of this scholarship.
