If your school meets most of the qualifications below, you are a member of our small districts/private schools group. Contact Sara Mockett, the current WLMA Small Districts/Private Schools Chair, with any ideas for how WLMA can support you in the important work you do.
Small Districts are defined as districts with fewer than 1,000 students, or districts that are unusually isolated.
You know you are working in a small district when:
- More livestock than humans reside within your district?s boundaries.
- Everyone in town calls you by your first name.
- District classrooms are run-down, but the football stadium is in top condition.
- When you shop at the local grocery store, at least one parent will ?talk school? with you as their children sneak peeks at the stuff in your shopping cart.
Private schools include all non-public schools.
You know you are working in a private school when:
- You can never win anything at the annual school auction. You are always outbid by the parents.
- Screening interviews are necessary to select your parent library volunteers from the pool of applicants.
- You are on the committee that annually reviews and updates the list of carpool line regulations.
- Lesson plans must allow time for interruptions by admissions tours.
You know you are working in a small district or a private school when:
- You have no district support.
- You are the only person in the school doing your job.
