WEB 2.0 INTERACTIVE

WLMA Conference 2007 Session wiki  web 2.0 by Joanna Freeman and Nadean Meyer

 

Web 2.0 is one way of explaining the evolving nature of the web to interactive with multiple people adding content without knowing code and without access to the server to post content. Content material is added at the point of access.

The tech department at Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina created a fun, small steps method for 8 weeks of learning. You will want speakers on your computer and one that allows blogs. But such a fun way to learn!

 

Definitions:

blogs--online diaries, discussions and activity logs by both insiders and a dialog betwen groups
podcasts-- digital radio braodcasts including voice and music that can be syndicated
RSS-- subscribers automatially receive new content posted to the website RSS= really simple syndication
wiki- multiple authors and ways to edit content online
web 2.0 --"where multitudes of users online actively exchange or contribute content" (Harris- SLJ 5/06)

  • Sign up for an account at bloglines.com

  • Select RSS feeds already on their list

  • Add the URL that includes RSS for example the WLMA Web site has RSS

  • Add http://wlma.org/rss to your account and it will update you about new items added to our news column on the main page

  • Look for RSS, Syndicate, XML orange button to let you now that the web site has set up RSS for you to use

  • Check you bloglines account on a regular basis or make it your home page to regularly view new material from your favorite web sites, bloggers and wikis
